Persoonlijk

Working as an editor for an online magazine taught me how to prioritise and manage from afar (I worked with 85 freelance writers spread across America, Europe and Africa). It also raised my sensitivity for the use of language. Advertising taught me how to think about your audience, and about the importance of brand reputation and coherence. And working as a bookseller and book-buyer at Waterstone's taught me how to manage budgets and stock, how to really listen to the customers' needs in order to better satisfy those needs.

I'd very much like to apply all that I have learnt, and all that interests me as a human being (the arts, philosophy, reading, etc.), in a job that fulfils me not only because I am right for it but also because the values of the organisation coincide with my personal ones. I believe in the power of the Arts in expanding the mind and fostering emotional and psychological wellbeing; I believe in the usefulness of philosophical reflection and enquiry in enriching life and work, and I believe that it is just as important for organisations to contribute to society by enriching life through what they exist to do as it is to make a profit - if you truly are enriching life, you will probably stay afloat.

My ambition is to be able to look back at the end of my life and know that I did not just work for money, and so was able to put my heart into everything I did since there was complete agreement between who I was as a person and the work that I did.
